Walter Tello ist einer der erfolgreichsten kolumbianischen Maler und hat bereits an mehr als 30 nationalen und internationalen Ausstellungen in Europa, den USA, Zentral- und Südamerika teilgenommen. Tello Murillo studierte Architektur, Bildende Künste und Gravierkunst an der Hochschule der Künste in Cali, Kolumbien und arbeitete unter anderem als Illustrator an verschiedenen Kulturzeitschriften in Kolumbien und anderen Ländern der Karibik. Walter Tellos Bilder entstehen nicht, indem er konkrete Konzepte verwirklicht. Vielmehr versucht er, seine künstlerischen Ideen beim Malen selbst umzusetzen. Ihm sind Materialien wie Farbe oder die Struktur von Leinwand oder Papier das Wichtigste, denn sie beeinflussen maßgeblich die Entstehung seiner Kunstwerke. In seinen Bildern verwendet er ohne Scheu kräftige und ausdrucksvolle Farben und animalische, instinktbetonte Wesen, die er einer bürokratischen und technisierten Industriegesellschaft entgegensetzt. Sein künstlerisches Interesse besteht darin, universelle Ausdrucksformen und Symbole zu finden, die auch bei Menschen verschiedener Kulturen Widerhall finden. Walter Tello entführt uns in eine Welt von zum Teil monströsen und mythischen Wesen. Dabei geht er zu den Ursprüngen des menschlichen Unbewußten zurück, denn für ihn ist das Unbewußte die Quelle aller künstlerischen Formen. Im April 1996 fand in der Warnemünder Galerie am Strom Walter Tellos erste deutsche Personalausstellung statt, in der 26 seiner Arbeiten unter dem Titel "Barbarische Porträts" gezeigt wurden.

Walter Tello is one of the most successful Columbian painters and has already taken part in more than 30 national and international exhibitions in Europe, the USA, Central and South America. Tello Murillo studied architecture, fine art and engraving at Cali College of Art in Columbia, and he has worked as an illustrator for several cultural journals in Columbia and other Caribbean countries. Walter Tello's pictures are not the product of an illustration of concrete concepts. He rather attempts to put his artistic ideas into practice while he paints. For him the most important aspects of his art are materials like paint, or the structure of canvas or paper, for these are a major influence on the processes of creation. In his pictures he has no qualms about using strong and expressive colours and animalistic creatures full of instinct, with which he confronts a bureaucratic and technologized industrial society. His artistic interests are in finding universal forms of expression and symbolism, which can find resonance with people from different cultures. Walter Tello draws us into a world of sometimes monstrous, mythical creatures. He returns to the origins of the human unconscious, and for him the unconscious is the source of all artistic forms. In April 1996 Walter Tello's first individual German exhibition was held, in the Warnemünde "Gallery am Strom", where 26 works were shown under the title "Barbaric Portraits".
